In Conversation vs. In Person: Decoding Indigo’s Two Signature Formats
As you’ll note, there are two types of Indigo author events: in conversations and in-persons.
An In Conversation event is Indigo’s structured, moderated author interview, typically staged like a small television segment rather than a standard reading. The author sits down with an interviewer, who is often a fellow author, a journalist, a broadcaster, or a similar personality, and the two work through a discussion about the book before the floor opens to audience questions.
An In Person event, by contrast, is built around proximity rather than dialogue. The author appears, often gives brief remarks, and then moves directly into signing books and meeting attendees one at a time, with far less scripted back-and-forth for the audience to watch. This gives you a chance to meet the author and get closer than you would if you were simply attending an interview on a stage.

Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida are two of Canada’s most decorated musicians, and as of 2026 they’re first-time joint authors.
Kreviazuk was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and built her career as a singer, songwriter, composer, and pianist whose adult-contemporary and pop-rock records have earned multiple Juno Awards. Maida was born Michael Anthony Maida in Weston, Ontario and is best known as the frontman of the multi-platinum alternative rock band Our Lady Peace. The two married in 1999 and have three sons together, and between them they carry a combined 30 award nominations, eight Juno Awards, and Grammy recognition, alongside Order of Canada honours for humanitarian work with War Child and mental health causes. Beyond their own catalogues, Maida has produced for Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson, while Kreviazuk has written songs recorded by Pitbull, Drake, and Christina Aguilera.

David Gibbins is a maritime archaeologist and New York Times and London Sunday Times bestselling author whose life has spanned three countries: he was born in Canada to English parents, grew up between Canada, New Zealand, and England, and now divides his time between England and Canada.
After graduating with first-class honours from the University of Bristol, he completed a PhD as a Research Scholar of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, then spent nearly a decade as an academic in England teaching archaeology and ancient history before writing full-time. Tanaz Bhathena is a Canadian author born in Mumbai, India, to a Parsi (Zoroastrian) family, who later lived in Saudi Arabia before moving to Canada as a teenager; she now lives in Mississauga, Ontario.
